The mission of SWNPHD is to empower individuals, foster collaborative partnerships, and advance the well-being of out communities through public health best practices.
Our residents' health and well-being are of the utmost importance and that is why we are the leading agency in these areas:
SWNPHD provides leadership, resources, and training in public health emergencies. Authority has been given to us by FEMA Emergency Support Function #8. We participate in preparedness exercises, provide education and resources for developing emergency kits for businesses and individuals, and provide guidelines for developing home disaster kits.

We identify, investigate and monitor each occurrence of reportable communicable diseases. We take action to contain the spread of disease before it becomes a major public health concern. We educate the public on preventative measures to protect themselves, family and others from disease.

We collect specific health data for the nine county health district, which is available for all public health partners to utilize in their efforts to identify and measure progress in changing unhealthy trends.
